Bhopal is the story of the struggle for dignity and justice. The Union Carbide gas tragedy that killed more than 8.000 immediately and over 22,000 people since then, still haunts the memories of the people.
Noted rap singer Sofia Ashraf told media persons that it is a struggle against one of the world's most powerful multinational corporations, backed by corrupt Governments; a struggle of ordinary Indians with little to call their own but their memories.
She stated that in the past one year, since its inauguration, the Remember Bhopal Museum has made an attempt to carry this memory, especially to the present generation, by raising issues that are central to the discourse that democratic India is witnessing as it transitions into an economic powerhouse- a discourse about economic growth, foreign investment, corporate crime, environmental protection and people's rights.
The Museum has furthered the discourse to the consequences of environmental assaults and the plundering of resources, she said. How should this memory be developed in a manner to portray the story of the tragedy and the survivors of Bhopal, she asked.
