The Communist Party of India (CPI) has demanded that the Kochar Commission’s report over Bhopal gas tragedy should be made public.
CPI State Secretary Shailendra Kumar Shelly in a statement here on Monday said, “The time has come when the Government should make public the Kochar Commission’s report over Bhopal gas tragedy.”
Shelly further said that the process of justice is getting obstructed due to non release of the Justice Kochar Commission’s report. The Bhopal gas victims are of the opinion that the Government is still trying to save the influential responsible accused of the world’s worst manmade disaster. “The recent order of the Bhopal Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Bhubhaskar Yadav to register FIR against the then Bhopal Collector Moti Singh and the then SP Swaraj Puri for helping the then Union Carbide chairman Warren Anderson in leaving the country is a big victory of the Bhopal gas victims,” Shelly added.
He said that strict action should be taken against these accused under IPC 212, 217 and 221. The CPI had on earlier occasion lodged complaint against these accused in Hanumangunj police station of the State Capital.
The CPI has always been active for the cause of the gas victims and demanding that the compensation for them as par with the USA citizens besides opposing any move of the State Government to acquire Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre established for the treatment of gas victims.
Notably, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced the setting up of the commission to look into all aspects of the disaster, including the manner in which the main accused, Warren Anderson was allowed to leave Bhopal and the name of Justice Sl Kochar was recommended to the then State Governor Rameshwar Thakur on August 10, 2010 by the Madhya Pradesh Government to head the one-member commission.
