'Regularise guest faculties in colleges'

Published on:

The Bharatiya Panchayat Sanghs (BPS) Madhya Pradesh unit on Saturday demanded that the services of guest faculties posted in the colleges in the State be regularised.

Nearly 3,600 guest teachers are rendering their services in about 400 colleges of the State. The BPS is demanding that they be provided honorarium as per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission and that their services should be regularised, State BPS president Atul Gupta told reporters.

He said the demand has been supported by 135 legislators and about 1.5 lakh students across the State. Gupta said they met Higher Education Minister Umashankar Gupta and Minister of State for Higher Education Deepak Joshi with their demands and they provided assurance in the matter, but mentioned paucity of funds as a constraint.

He claimed that the Government possessed sufficient funds as it also received funds from the University Grants Commission and the Centre for such purposes. He alleged that the government was not serious in this regard. Gupta said that several guest faculties are staging a demonstration at Ambedkar Park here and the Sangh was supporting their protest. A sit-in would be organised in all the districts, if their demands were not met within a fortnight.
