Regular water supply still a far cry in Indore

Notwithstanding the fact that a sum of over Rs 574 crore has been spent for urban water supply in Indore city under Project Uday, an ambitious scheme of the Urban administration and development department of the Government of Madhya Pradesh, water supply in Indore city is still far from satisfactory.

Despite spending crores of rupees on water supply in the  city, the officials concerned  have not been able to devise mechanism to check huge water distribution loss in the city, leave alone the installation of metering system at all the new water tanks constructed in Indore city under the Project Uday.

The project officials during an informal discussion with commissioner, Urban administration Sanjay Shukla here in the city on Tuesday, admitted the fact that out of  180 mld of water supply from Jalud pumping station only 110 mld of water reaches Indore, besides supply of 40 mld to the cantonment town of Mhow. The remaining 20 mld of water goes wastage due to leakage on old cement pipelines. At the existing domestic water supply rate, water worth about Rs 16 crore every month goes wastage and surprisingly no serious thought has been given by the authority concerned under the Project Uday to check this huge water revenue loss to Indore municipal corporation.

Taking a serious note of the huge wastage of water, commissioner, Urban administration, Sanjay Shukla has directed the IMC commissioner Rakesh Singh to take necessary steps to curb huge water loss to Indore. Shukla also gave a dressing down to IMC commissioner and other senior project officials for not installing metering system on the water tanks constructed in the city under Project Uday so as to keep a tab on supply and distribution of water in Indore city. He directed the IMC commissioner to start working on installation of meters on the water tanks in the city.
