'Red bricks being continuously manufactured despite NGT ban'

Secretary of the Fly Ash Bricks Manufacturers’ Welfare Society Nitin Paliwal has alleged that red bricks are being continuously manufactured despite the fact that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has strictly banned it.

While speaking to the mediapersons on Thursday, Paliwal said that a national meeting in which manufacturers of seven States participated was held in the State capital. During the meeting, discussion on a national level association was held.

In 2009, orders of using bricks made by fly ash for all kinds of constructions in the radius of 100 km around Thermal Power Plant was issued, but seriousness was missing and thus, use of red bricks continued.

Paliwal told that the around 4,000 tonnes of fly ash is produced as by-product at Sarni Thermal Plant, which was dumped in forest earlier and was stopped after it was banned by NGT. If the same fly ash is provided to the ash bricks, tiles and paving block manufacturing companies, it would be a great help for the environment and would generate employment along with being a large source of revenue for the Government.
