The Opposition Congress has stated that the latest cyber attack has furthered doubt over the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) to reconsider its decision of continuing to use EVM.

leader of Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Ajay Singh in a statement here on Wednesday said, “The doubt over the hacking of EVMs furthers with the incidences of hacking of  complete data of computers and ATMs through cyber attack and to control the petrol pump machines through remote by fixing a chip in them.”

Singh further said that the ECI should reconsider its decision of continuing to use EVM and requested that the next elections of the country and the states should be carried out through ballot paper. “When people sitting far flung could affect all data of computers and ATMs of over 150 countries including India than how come this could not be done with EVM,” he added.

He said that it is not practical to conduct elections through EVM in the country having population of over 125 crore. Today, newer technology has expanded worldwide including in India and in this series the technology used in EVM could easily be affected through new technology, he added.

The senior Congress leader said that today elections through EVM have become a big threat for the democracy of the country.

The people of the country are also amazed over the results coming out of this making it clear that something is wrong somewhere due to that the results given by the EVM are not impartial and as per the public opinion, he added.

He told the ECI that for the impartial and free elections for the largest democracy of the world full proof system should be adopted so that the opinion of the democracy should remain secured and no one could hack it.
