Senior leaders of Congress have started looking into the reasons responsible for its defeat in the recent State Assembly polls, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Kantilal Bhuria said here on Sunday.
“Senior Congress leaders have already begun the exercise of finding the reasons behind the party’s defeat and the partymen would soon come to know about its positive outcome,” Bhuria said in a statement. He advised party workers and leaders to refrain from making any statement about the party’s defeat. Any statement given by the party workers outside the appropriate forum would be useful only for the media, which they present as news of the day, he sadded.
The State Congress chief said that though the party men are free to air their grievances and suggestions, it should be done before the AICC or the MPCC, which will be in the interest of the party in the longer run. “Though it is a fact that the party has lost elections, nobody would prevent the party men from struggling for the people of the State,” Bhuria said.
Bhuria had earlier said, “We tried our best but lost for several reasons. It is a fact that our leaders, candidates and workers were stationed in New Delhi seeking tickets from the screening committee while the BJP was working overtime at ground zero campaigning and garnering votes.’’ He admitted that Shivraj Singh Chouhan has become more popular than the Congress could have gauged.
Bhuria argued that Rahul Gandhi’s formula of tickets distribution was not implemented fully which also was a major flaw. “I wanted to submit my resignation from the post of PCC chief to AICC general secretary Mohan Prakash but he told me to hand over the same to party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi,’’ he added.
