A pre-monsoon rain brought down the temperature in the city by around four degrees Celsius on Wednesday. The slow advancement of the monsoon might gain speed due to the increased atmospheric activities being witnessed in the Bay of Bengal. Now it will arrive in the city by June 23, Met officials said.

light showers were predicted by the Met Department. It said that during the season, around 7 per cent less rainfall will be witnessed, as the monsoon is already lagging behind.

The light showers on Wednesday provided some relief from humidity. In the morning, the maximum temperature was recorded at 37 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was recorded at 27 degrees Celsius. The rainfall witnessed on Wednesday evening further dropped the temperature by a few notches and the minimum temperature was recorded at 25 degree Celsius.

The monsoon has reached Goa and due to increase in the monsoon current a strong system has developed over the Bay of Bengal which has made favorable conditions for monsoon reaching Karnataka and Maharahstra and after Maharashtra monsoon would enter Madhya Pradesh. It is possible that by next week monsoon rains would start in the State, the Director of the Met Department said.

Due to the south-western winds bringing moisture from the Arabian Sea, the temperatures are not rising.
