Rahul to pick winner of CM race

After submitting its claim for forming the next Government in Madhya Pradesh before the Governor, a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) held at the PCC on Wednesday evening unanimously authorising AICC president Rahul Gandhi for selecting the CLP leader. Informing about the CLP meeting, Congress media cell in charge Shobha Oza told media persons that the resolution to authorise the party president Rahul Gandhi for choosing the CLP leader was proposed by senior most MLA Arif Aqueel.

Thereafter, the meet unanimously supported the resolution, she said, clarifying that there was no trouble at all in taking this decision. The two central observers — AK Anthony and Bhanwar Jitendra Singh would also have one-on-one with those MLAs who have something to share on the decision and would leave for New Delhi in the night with the resolution and feedbacks from the newly elected MLAs, said Oza.

The observers are expected to meet Rahul on and the latter could make a decision afterwards.

The meeting was attended by all the senior party leaders, elected MLAs including four rebels, claimed the Congress spokesperson. Asked whether the rebels have returned to the party folds, Oza pleaded ignorance on the matter.

However, enthusiastic party workers had gathered outside the fortified PCC hours ahead of the meeting. Supporters of Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia kept raising slogans in the favour of their leaders. However, there was a rumour that Gandhi would seek party workers’ suggestions on ‘Shakti’ App over CM face but party office bearers declined to confirm anything like this.

Early in the day, Kamal Nath accompanied with senior leaders reached Rajbhavan and presented the claim to form the Government. Nath also handed a list of 121 MLAs to the Governor.

Besides 114 MLAs of Congress, four party rebels have extended support to Congress besides BSP’s two and SP’s one MLA also has announced to support the Congress government. Prior to this, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan accepting the defeat had tendered his resignation to Governor Anandiben Patel.

Bhupesh Baghel and TS Singh Deo are locked in keen tussle for the CM’s chair in Chhattisgarh. Congress’ Lok Sabha member Tamradhwaj Sahu’s name also figured in the evening before the party decided for the legislature party meeting in the presence of AICC observers Mallikarjun Kharge, AICC incharge for the State PL Punia and other senior leaders. Making the choice of CM in Rajasthan is going to be tough task for Rahul.

Following the differences, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting in Rajasthan passed a single-line resolution authorising the party president to decide the name of the Chief Minister.

While the CM’s name was yet to be finalised due to disagreements, Congress delegation met Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh to stake claim to form a Government. A Congress MLA said there could be another meeting of the CLP on Thursday morning to resolve the deadlock.

“We have full majority and have staked claim to form a Government. We will take along all non-BJP parties and elected members who are against the BJP and are willing to support us,” Pilot said after the CLP meeting in Jaipur.
