The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday granted bail to the State's ex-finance minister Raghavji, who was sent to judicial custody over sodomy allegations.
A single bench of Justice BK Kaushal granted bail to former Madhya Pradesh minister Raghavji on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh keeping in mind his old age. Earlier, a lower court in Bhopal had rejected the bail plea of Raghavji.
Raghavji would get out of prison on Tuesday morning after spending 35 days in Bhopal central jail.
The octogenarian leader was arrested in Bhopal last month on the charge of sodomising his domestic help Rajkumar Dangi.
later, he was presented before a court, which had sent him to jail on judicial remand. He has been in the jail
since then.
Raghavji was forced to quit from his position as finance minister following the allegations. He was later expelled from the BJP's membership.
Raghavji, who has been accused of sexual abuse by his domestic help, was first sent to judicial custody till July 22, after he was arrested on July 9, the judicial custody was later extended till August 5.
Raghavji had resigned as State finance minister after a CD purportedly featuring him surfaced and his domestic help filed a police complaint alleging that he was being sexually exploited by the minister.
The former minister was in Vidisha when the FIR was filed. He allegedly went missing soon after and filed an anticipatory bail plea, but didn't show up when the State Assembly session began
that day.
The opposition has alleged that there has been a delay in arresting Raghavji as Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of the BJP was protecting him; Congress leader Ajay Singh alleged that it took six hours to register the FIR.
Raghavji's family and supporters say the case against him is politically motivated.
They allege that the man who has accused him of sexual exploitation had quit a month ago and he was being backed by Congress leaders.
