The race for the PCC Chief further intensified with over a dozen Congress legislators visiting former Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh, at his Bhopal residence on Wednesday.
The gathering came a day after senior party leaders Digvijay Singh and Govind Singh paid visits to the residence of Ajay Singh in Bhopal and had close door meetings on Tuesday.
However, as was the case on Tuesday, Ajay Singh, the former Leader of Opposition in state assembly kept himself tight-lipped over the developments and did not respond to media queries.
However political analysts believed that it was an attempt to show strength ahead of the much awaited appointment at the party state unit.
A similar instance was witnessed after the assembly polls when Singh had lost to BJP’s Shardendu Tiwari and several MLAs from Vindhya and Mahakaushal had thrown their weight behind him. Some even had offered to resign so that the senior leader from Vindhya could contest a bypoll.
Meanwhile, those who thronged at the C-19, Shivaji Nagar bungalow of Singh, son of Congress veteran Arjun Singh, included –Neelanshu Chaturvedi, Vikram Singh Natiraja, SP MLA Rajesh Shukla, Nilay Daga, Alok Chaturvedi, Ramlal Malviya, Vinay Saxena, Kalawati Bhuria, Gopal Chauhan and others.
After Jyotiraditya Scindia has been offered key responsibility ahead of Maharashtra assembly polls, it’s least likely that he would be handed reins of MP Congress.
However, party sources claimed that Chief Minister Kamal Nath is still lobbying hard for his close aide and the Home minister Bala Bachchan for the key post. With Bachchan hailing to tribal community and being a senior leader of the state unit, his claim for the top post also canot be ignored by the party president Sonia Gandhi whom would also be wary of the dissent brewing in the Scindia camp.
