The charm and magic of Tagore’s storytelling unfolded before the Bhopalites at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhavan here on Friday. Marking the second day of Rabindra Utsav 2015 a play ‘Chokher Bali’ was staged at Bharat Bhavan. Directed by Rajesh Bhadoria the artists of Rabindra Amateur theater group gave a stunning performance receiving a positive response by the theatre goers of the city.

The audiences were spell bound seeing a theatre performance of a drama which has been adapted on silverscreen.

The play Chokher Bali is an adaptation of the novel with the same title written by the most renowned poet and author Rabindranath Tagore.

This play follows the story of Binodini. The young woman is left alone when her sick husband dies soon after they are married. She returns to her village and lives there for a couple of months until she sees one of her relatives passing by. Binodini goes to live with the woman and her son, Mahendra (Prasenjit). When the two arrive, the woman's son and his new bride, the infatuation does not last long and Mahendra soon begins to see that Binodini, is more his type.

The story details the lives of these three and Mahendra's best friend as they deal with issues as distrust, adultery, lies, and fallings-out.

Undoubtedly  to stage it as a drama was challenging and few changes were done but the play was performed maintaining the same charm of Tagore’s narration.

The play was performed beautifully and the audience watched the play with a lot of excitement. Not only the light design added the zest in the performance but also the acting part was brilliant.
