To observe the anniversary of Madhya Pradesh State Tourism and Development Corporation (MPSTDC), various programmes are being held in the city. On the second day of the programme, a Qawwali programme was organised at Sair Sapata. On Wednesday, the Bhopalites took the pleasure of the innocence and purity of the Sufi music.

The renowned Qawwal Munawwar Masoom gave a splendid performance at Sair Sapata. The Sufi evening enchanted the audience by the great Qawwalies of Munawar Masoom. He was born to the Mewat gharana of Bhopal, and is a renowned qawwali singer. He started singing at the tender age of 7, and had already recorded his first album by the time he turned 9. He has performed in many concerts across the country.

He started off with Chhap Tilak Sab Chini, which left the audience enthralled. He then presented a qawwali as the tribute to Khwaja Nawaz Uddin which again made the audience love his performance. His each performance was like a feast for the qawwali lovers of the city.

He then presented a ghazal, Yaar mere dushman ko salamat rakhna. His rich, sonorous voice rendered many sufiyana poems with intensity. His treasure trove of ghazals, which also highlight his musical composition, point at conscious choices made by the vocalist, who has imbibed the rich tradition of the ‘qawwals.’ He was accompanied by Mohammad Ibrahim on Harmonium, Mohammad Shahid on keyboard, Abdul Rafiq on Dholak, and Mohammad Usman on Banjo.
