Under the series ‘Poonam’ of Indian classical Music, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya organised the 35th performance on Saturday. In this programme, renowned artist PadmaVibhushan Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj gave presentation of vocal recital at open-air stage situated at lake side of Manav Sangrahalaya. Pandit Jasraj started his performance with a stuti dedicated to lord Hanuman in Raaga ‘Jog’. He said, “Today is poornima and Hanuman Jayanti, so I will start my performance with a song dedicated to lord Hanuman”. The Padma Vibhusan recipient, Pandit Jasraj, was accompanied by Pandit Rattan Mohan Sharma on vocal-support, Pandita Tripti Mukherjee on harmonium and vocal support, Ojas Adiga on tabla, Shridhar Parth Sarthi on Mridang and Mukund Pedhkar on tanpura.

Indian Classical Music today, is one of the greatest gifts of India to the world. And a blessed few, much beyond their fame and fortune, have devoted their lives to bolster this claim far and wide. While renowned instrumentalists have done it through their chosen instruments, like the Sitar and the Sarod, Pandit Jasraj has done it through that one God-gifted instrument: His Voice. Perfect diction, clarity in sur (musical notes), and gayaki (creative musical progression), command in all aspects of laya and rhythm, depth of composition and an unmistakable interplay between notes and words to evoke the desired mood and emotion, are the hallmark of Panditji’s music. This sensitivity, added to the pure classical approach, has given his singing a lyrical quality, the quintessential of the Mewati tradition of singing.
