After the attack on Chouhan, MP Home Minister Bhupendra Singh told media persons that Congress can stoop to any low to come to power in the state. “Police have arrested nine persons this morning. They are all prominent Congress leaders. The incident is shameful and unfortunate, he said.
Talking to reporters after the attack, Chouhan said that incident like this has never before in Madhya Pradesh.
“In this ideological fight, parties used to organise different programs but something like this never happened. I want to ask Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Congress state president Kamal Nath, in which direction do they wish to take Congressij Is it fine what their leaders and workers are doingij” he said.
The stone-pelting incident occurred in Churhat area late on Sunday in the Assembly constituency of Congress's Ajay Singh. Parashar and the BJP have accused the Congress of engineering the attack, while the Congress blamed Chouhan's own party for staging the attack to malign the Opposition. Chouhan is holding ‘Jan Aashirwad Yatra’ in the state to highlight his government’s achievement.
After the Supreme Court's decision on the SC-ST Act, the Central Government amended the Act, which led to widespread resentment in the upper caste society. Many fear that this decision by the Centre to amend the Dalit Atrocities Act can prove costly for Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in the upcoming Assembly election in the state.
