Upset over a woman Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) sending her subordinate tehsildar to accept a memorandum from the protesting Congress members in Ratlam, the Sailana Congress MLA Harshvijay Gehlot crossed the line during an angry outburst.
A video of the incident went viral in social media on Monday afternoon. “If you were a male officer, I would have collared you and handed the memorandum,” an angry Gehlot said to the SDM. Congress party on Monday had taken out a tractor rally in support of the ongoing farmers’ agitation in New Delhi and afterwards the MLA wished to hand over a memorandum to the SDM.
The woman officer however instead of personally accepting the memorandum sent a tehsildar and this infuriated the lawmaker from the Congress party who declined to hand over the memorandum to the subordinate officer and insisted the SDM showed up there.
“You guys don’t value us. If you were a male officer, I would have grabbed you by collar and handed the memorandum,” said an upset MLA.
The SDM clarified that tehsildar is also an executive magistrate and is no inferior person to accept the memorandum. The angry MLA then said that in that case she should have sent any patwari or clerk to receive the memorandum.
The MLA is yet to clarify his stand on the incident. Recently, a video had gone viral in which the Alot MLA of Congress Manoj Chawla was also seen threatening a patwari (revenue department staffer).
