Gathering of Patel Group of Institution students at the ABVP office at bus depot square puzzled police on Thursday. The students in large number gathered at the office against the illegal fines imposed on the students.
Since, model code of conduct is in force, the police got vigilant and questioned the students by detaining them at the ABVP office.
The protest took a massive shape when classes were emptied by the students protesting the collection of illegitimate money under different categories.
At around 8 am around 200 students reached the State office of ABVP and as soon as the police received the information heavy police force was deployed at the office while around 800 students who were on their way to State office of ABVP were stopped at Neelbad.
Providing the problems faced by the students they told that around Rs 200 is collected for college magazine and when information about the magazine is asked they are ridiculed by stating that the amount is used for elections.
In the name of co-operative store Rs 2050 is collected but no facility is being provided by the college.
The students further alleged that a fine upto Rs 3000 is charged from them if identity is lost, uniform not used and for delay in depositing the books in the library. laboratories have least equipments but in case of absence in the lab, the students are charged with fine of Rs 500 as penalty.
Under various categories college management charges penalties and collects money for basic facilities which should be provided free of cost of the students.
Delay in the semester registration attracts a penalty of Rs 2000 per semester and huge amount of money is collected from the students in the name of training and placement and on complaining the students are threatened of delaying examination form and deduction of numbers in the examination.
Mahanagar Secretary of ABVP Rupesh Dixit told that ABVP has mediated and the college management has acceded to the demands of the students for ending the practice of collecting illegitimate fine from the students.
