Programme on Muslim freedom-fighters opens

Weeklong programmes to remember role of Muslim religious leaders and revolutionaries in the freedom struggle were launched here on Tuesday night.

The first programme organised by Arif Masood Fans Club was held at Berkhedi and on the occasion, a large number of people gathered to boost the morale of participating children.

Over three dozen children participated in the programme and they spoke in detail about the biography of various Muslim religious leaders and revolutionaries.

Besides, a quiz was held to check the knowledge of the participating children. Mehreen stood first, while Arham Ali and Zainab stood second and third respectively.

The winners would be awarded with mementos and certificates in the concluding program that would be held on August 16 at Itwara Square.

All India Muslim Personal law Board (AIMPlB) member and former MP Congress spokesperson Arif Masood presided over the program.

Masood in his address on the occasion said, “lakhs of Muslim religious leaders and revolutionaries laid down their life to get country freedom for the country and of them, only few names are mentioned in the school books that are known to all while sacrifices of most of the martyrs have been forgotten.

This being the reason that the weeklong programmes are being organised for last couple of years so that the new generation should get aware of the sacrifices made by the community and that they should learn that the freedom struggle was fought jointly by the Hindus and Muslims and that there is large contribution of Muslim religious leaders besides revolutionaries in it.”

The week long programmes would come to end on August 16 with grand program at Itwara.
