President's Rule a must to curb crime, says Ajay Singh

Madhya Pradesh Assembly's leader of the Opposition Ajay Singh on Friday said it is imperative to impose President's Rule in the State as mafias, rapists and corrupt people are ruling the roost while the Bharatiya Janata Party regime is proving a midget.

While talking to mediapersons here on Friday, Singh said, “President's Rule is necessary so that peace prevails until the year-end Assembly elections.” The recent gunning down of Forest Department Guard Kanta prasad here by the jungle mafias substantiates the Congress claim, he added.

Two years ago, the Centre directed the State regime to constitute a Special Tiger Protection Force and also provided funds but the Government busy enhancing its popularity paid scant heed, Singh alleged while adding that the regime is hell-bent on making the State bankrupt by looting the Treasury to garner votes in the Assembly polls.

Answering questions, Ajay said that leaders from the Congress would meet the State governor and central leaders to place their demand before them. He said that a number of things were going wrong in Madhya Pradesh at present including increase in rape cases, gunning down of officers wanting to prevent illegal mining and zero security or safety for women.

Regarding Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi's two-day visit that ended on Thursday, Singh said it had helped to galvanise party workers in the State. He said that more such meets have to be held in future to ensure that the morale of party workers does not slacken.

Besides, Ajay claimed that this year's assembly elections would not be fought under the Chief Minister-ship of Shivraj Singh Chouhan. “Any person including Kailash Vijayvargiya, Babulal Gaur, Narendra Singh Tomar and Prabhat Jha can become the CM but Chouhan will not be there at the time of elections,” he said.
