Preps for GIS: Commissioner orders removal of promotional material

Amid hectic preparations for the Global Investors Summit, Municipal Commissioner Harendra Narayan on Wednesday ordered the immediate removal of unsightly advertising paraphernalia from public spaces in the state capital.

The top city bureaucrat told officials to rid the city of banners, posters, and pamphlets placed on walls, poles, and trees. He also called for stringent action against those defacing public property.

Narayan said that Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste and green waste lying on roads, in public places, and in open areas should be removed immediately. Dust and dirt should also be cleaned.

All responsible health officers, assistant health officers, and constables should patrol the field to ensure better cleanliness in their respective areas.

The instructions from Narayan came after he inspected various areas of the city, including New Market, Polytechnic, Hamidia Hospital, Royal Market, State Bank Chauraha, GAD Flyover, Collectorate, Lalghati, and Bairagarh.

Narayan assessed the cleanliness situation, giving instructions both in person and via video conference. During his inspection, Narayan found banners, posters, and pamphlets on walls, poles, and trees, particularly in areas like Bairagarh and Bhopal-Indore Road.

Narayan directed that urgent repairs be carried out on the central verge and divider on Union Carbide Road. He also instructed the removal of layers of earth from construction sites along the GAD Flyover and Bairagarh Road.

The instructions from the Municipal Commissioner come ahead of a looming national sanitation survey, and, more importantly, the Global Investors Summit scheduled for February 24-25.

Meanwhile, artists, many of them belonging to the state's vibrant folk traditions, were seen painting murals along the routes likely to be taken by delegates visiting the city to attend the Summit.
