In the prayer that was held in St Assumption Church more than 250 people, including many pastors, fathers and sisters participated. On this occasion, Fr Solomon, the outgoing PRO, warmly welcomed all the participants for prayer. The feast of Pentecost is celebrated 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It was on this day that the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and others in the form of mighty wind and flames of fire.
The main speakers, leo Cornelio and Samson Samuel of St Peter’s Marthoma Church stressed the need for unity among Christians. Pastor Sikender Khan prayed for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the participants and Rani Rosario prayed for the healing of the sick. Jose Prakash, the secretary of the Commission for Inter-religious dialogue and ecumenism, spoke about the urgency of fulfilling the Mission Command of Jesus. The choir groups of Assumption Church, Christ Church, Govindpura and Holy Redeemer Church, Railway Colony sang number of very melodious songs invoking the Holy Spirit. Fr Shaji Stanislaus thanked all the participants.
It is hoped that this kind of common prayer by all Christian denominations will bring about better unity among the Christians. The prayer was organized by Commission for Inter-religious dialogue and ecumenism with the help of PRO office and Fr Antonius Toppo, the parish priest of Assumption Church.
