Pragya supports Shiv Sena’s demand to ban burqa in wake of terrorist strike in SL

BJP candidate from Bhopal Pragya Thakur here on Wednesday advocated Shiv Sena’s demand on banning  burqa in the wake of bomb blasts in Sri Lanka.

While talking to media persons here, Thakur said while keeping the country on the topmost priority, certain traditions should be relaxed if certain elements including terrorists take advantage of the burqa and harm the country and democracy.

The community should take a call on the prevailing scenario. She also said a man was caught wearing a burqa in a country. Citing an example of airport where everyone including the burqa clad women are also required to remove the burqa during security check and you no option but to cooperate.

Without naming the Muslim community, she said they adhere to these things where there are the norms but we have a democracy and everyone is free to follow his/her tradition so they need to take a call keeping in mind the security of the nation on their own.

“I guess they would definitely take a decision on this when they would keep the nation on topmost priority and those who try to cause rift would be side-lined,” she added.

To a query whether shunning burqa would be a symbol of freedom for Muslim women, Thakur said the country was of paramount importance. People could follow their traditions but when it’s a question of national security, it should be made sure, the tradition are not misused.
