The five-day pottery making workshop concluded here on Wednesday. The workshop that began on September 28 was conducted by a noted ceramist and a national awardee from Tamil Nadu R Thangaiya.

Notably, the five-day workshop was organised by Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth (SPIC MACAY). It was organised in two colleges simultaneously, at Maulana Azad Nationonal Institute of Technology (MANIT) and Bagulmukhi College of Architecture and Planning.

As the students of the city are exploring their talents using their best skills, the college students learned about a pottery making in a unique and traditional way during the workshop. Ceramic art is something which is being in practice for a decade. Through the pottery making workshop the students have got an opportunity to learn the modified or advanced form of ceramic making, where as many artists stay deprived from such forms of ceramic art, the students learned about different forms of pottery making.

As many as 60 students in total from both the colleges participated in the workshop. They explored the unique techniques of terracotta making with the help of wheel pottery. They learned to make the models of horses and elephants and some they created on their own using their imagination.

While talking to The Pioneer, regional Secretary of SPIC MACAY Ashish Joshi said, “We have organised this event as a part of our regular event of the SPIC MACAY so that the students could learn new forms of creative art.” Further on asking about the limited participation of the students, Joshi said, “We always keep limited registrations for such events so that each and every individual could be explored to the best of their skills. This time the limitation was up to 30 students that made 60 from both the colleges.” Similar events would be organized in the future as well, he added further.

This pottery making workshop was like a treat for the students who wanted to learn something new.
