Chockfull deep pits and potholes greet travellers coming to the city from the Delhi- Agra side as well as the Jhansi side. The roads entering the city at GuddaNakka and Motijheel have led to many accidents in the recent past due to these deep pits and pot holes.
The 3.5 km road from GuddaNakka to Chirwai is strewn with more than 25 ditches, some of which are almost 1 foot deep. The two wheelers and motorists plying on this road have a tough time negotiating these ditches and pits. School buses, carrying children of about 20 CBSE schools located on the Shivpuri link Road too use this road and the risk of toppling on these water choked ditches always run high.
Similar is the case of the 3 kms Mitijheel Road. Trucks going towards the Transport Nagar have a tough time reaching their destination. One can also see erosion of pre-mix in many places because of which driving safely and smoothly on this road is a herculean task for the drivers.
According to sources, money for the revamp of the road has already been passed but the PWD is unable to begin work due to the rainy season.
The business community and the locals had many times in the past apprised the authorities about the pitiful condition of these reads which are posing grave danger to lives and property, but the authorities are yet to take any appropriate action.
Talking to the media persons, Gyanwardhan Mishra, the Executive Engineer of PWD said that the tender process will be completed soon and work will begin shortly. He added that an amount of Rs 65 crores has already been sanctioned by the NHAI for the construction of the roads. However, he cautioned that any renovation work in the immediate future could get hampered due to the rains.
Prem Chowdhary, in- charge at the Gwalior Municipal Corporation said that planning for the construction of the Motijheel Road will be done very soon, but the actual work will begin only after the rainy season.
