Continuing his letter writing spree to the Chief Minister, the leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Satyadev Katare, wrote another one on Wednesday; this time urging him not to convene the meeting of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National Journalism University council as the agenda also includes the issue of extension to the vice-chancellor.

Katare, in his letter to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on the eve of the special meeting of the general council of the university presided over by Chouhan, said, "The issue of providing extension of services of vice-chancellor BK Kuthiala is listed in the meet while the Jabalpur High Court has issued notice to the university administration over temporary extension to Kuthiala in January this year and has sought reply by July 7. In these circumstances when the issue is pending before the court, no decision could be taken over it."

Katare further said that the tenure of nominated members of the general council of the university is also coming to an end on July 4, hence the meeting called in a hurry to give extension to the vice-chancellor is not appropriate and justified.  Moreover, over 25 per cent of the posts are lying vacant in the general council, Under these conditions the decisions taken by the general council would not be in the frame of law, he added.

He said that in the light of all these circumstances it would not be justified to go ahead with the proposed meeting of the general council of the university and hence it should be postponed and should be called on next date when conditions become favorable.
