Post-raid, Cong demands Jatiya papers cancellation

State Congress has demanded cancellation of the Rajya Sabha nomination papers of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and former Union labour Minister Satyanarayan Jatiya following Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raids at his Bhopal and Ujjain residences on Tuesday.

Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee vice president Manak Agarwal in a statement said, “The CBI raids on the premises of Jatiya are following charges against his son Rajkumar Jatiya that during his father’s tenure as union minister in Atal Behari Vajpayee led NDA government at centre large number of appointments were made in the labour ministry by abusing his fathers’ office and taking money.”

Agarwal further said that the CBI raids have exposed the seriousness of the corruption and its comprehensiveness committed by Jatiya’s son. BJP off and then boasts of political purity in the public life, but the cases of corruption exposed time and again against its leaders, ministers and their kin exposes its hollow claims over the corruption, he added.

The senior Congress leader said that Madhya Pradesh has become the main centre of BJP’s scam and scandals. The BJP leaders investigated by the government agencies are found to be neck deep in corruption, he added. He said that the CBI has seized important documents pertaining to the involvement of Jatiya’s son in the recruitment scam by abusing his fathers’ office.

The state vice president of Congress said that after becoming Rajya Sabha member Jatiya could hamper investigations against his son and could also disgrace the upper house, so it would be better that his nomination be cancelled so that the dignity of the Rajya Sabha could be saved. He called on the state leadership of the BJP to tack back Jatiya’s candidature and save the parliamentary traditions and purity. This step of the BJP would be in the interest of both the BJP and the RS, he added.
