'Post mahila cops in civil uniform near colleges'

Published on:

The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) on Wednesday told the Bhopal Range Deputy Inspector General of Police to post ‘Nirbhaya’ and Mahila police in civil uniforms near all the schools and colleges of the State capital.

The MPHRC further said in its recommendations that every year when school-colleges reopen after summer vacations at that time mahila police should especially be posted in patrolling teams.

The commission instructed the police administration that if miscreants indulge in eve teasing than prohibitory action should be taken against them. The women police should be asked to remain in contact with girl students. The town inspector should remain in contact with the principals of all the schools and colleges of their area so that in case of eve teasing in their police station area immediate action could be taken.

The Commission has issued these instructions on the basis of project report prepared during internship by the students of National law University Institute (NlUI) Bhopal besides taking cognizance of news published in local news papers. The report says that not a single public place in the city has been left where incidents of eve teasing do not take place daily.  Not only the youth but children and elderly are also involved in making obscene gestures towards girls and women. The morale of the miscreants is high due to insensitive attitude of the police.

This shocking truth came to fore during the survey conducted by law students. The information was gathered by the students of the NlUI during their internship at the MPHRC. Under the survey these students talked with the girl students of top colleges of the city. The girl students told that they do not ask for help at the time when someone teases them besides they do not even discuss it with their parents instead they talk the issue with friends with the fear that parents could stop sending them to college.
