The police verification certificate is now necessary for obtaining learning licence for driving vehicles. In view of increasing incidents of rape, the Transport department has taken this decision and enforced with it immediate effect. The applicant for renewal for licence holders would also have to obtain certificate of police verification.
This arrangement has been implemented in the Transport department with immediate effect. The Transport Commissioner, Shailendra Shrivastava said that the licence holders would have to enclose police verification with the application. After the new order, the new applicant would have to enclose police verification with the application to check the incident of rapes or any other crimes in the private taxi, only then the regional transport department would issue licence.
The Transport Commissioner said that the drivers of registered taxis would have to take police verification. They cannot employee anybody without police verification. Shrivastava said that there are only seven travel agencies in the city which are registered in transport department while there are more than 100 travel agencies that would now come under control under purview of this order.
The new order has been enforced on old licence holders. From now on, the old licenced holders would also have to apply for renewal of licence. Without police verification the licence would not be renewed. The transport commissioner said that police verification of taxi drivers has been made compulsory to check the incident of rap by the private taxi drivers. The new order would curb such incidents.
