In the name of vehicle checking drive, senior police official in Bhopal district want to continue with misbehaviour with the common people. Common people are misbehaved by the police officials on the main roads alleging that they own a stolen vehicle.
Inspector General of Police Bhopal Zone Upendra Jain and Deputy Inspector General of Police Bhopal Sreenivasa Varma are not willing to stop this drive in which the common people are being harassed saying they are thief.
On different squares of the state capital the traffic police officials equipped with laptops check the registration number of the vehicles stopped in the name of checking. After having searched in the regional transport office website (http://www.mptransport.org), when no record is found the vehicle owner is termed as driving /riding stolen vehicle. Not only this, the innocent people are also abused in typical police language stating that someone is forged. These are things witnessed several times almost at every square of the city. However despite having informed the senior official are not willing to stop this misbehavior with the common people.
Under the digitisation process records of every vehicle registered RTO should be uploaded on server but due to lethargic approach of the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) officials records of thousands of vehicles in past couple of years are yet to be uploaded on the server. Following this the website of transport department is unable to search the details of the vehicle. The tall claims by the traffic police of nabbing vehicle lifters seems baseless as the vehicle portal maintained by the RTO used by the police to verify the ownership of the vehicle is not updated.
When the call center of the Transport Department was contacted it was told that the vehicle registration number is updated within a maximum period of 4-5 working days but the person at the call center was not able to explain the delay in the process and told that the queries could be resolved on working day.
The process of updation in the new or old vehicle remains the same and time consumed will also be the same.
Inspector General of Police Bhopal Zone Upendra Jain told that in case of first owner sells the vehicle the number would be registered on the only after the new owner gets the smart card which means that after the completion of the process the number gets registered.
However he evaded the question of time period for updation of the data in the data base and was not able to provide the answer for the missing registration number in the MIS which is maintained by the Transport Department and it should held responsible for not maintaining the process.
DIG Bhopal Sreenivasa Varma told that the matter will be discussed with the RTO department and would be sorted out soon.
