Police seize poppy husk worth Rs 4 Lakh in major drug bust

In a major operation under the ongoing special campaign against illegal narcotics in Madhya Pradesh, Garoth Police successfully intercepted a drug smuggler transporting a large quantity of poppy husk (Doda Chura) worth approximately Rs 4 lakh. The operation, led by Superintendent of Police Abhishek Anand, resulted in the seizure of 2 quintals and 7.5 kilograms of the illegal substance.

The breakthrough came after Sub-Inspector M.L. Chauhan of Garoth Police Station received a tip-off during the night of June 14–15, 2025. The information indicated that a blue, unnumbered tractor with a tanker, allegedly carrying Doda Chura, was on its way from Melkheda to Garoth-Bhanpura road, with plans to proceed towards Jodhpur. The tanker had been modified to conceal the narcotics.

Acting on the tip-off, Inspector Harish Malaviya, In-charge of Garoth Police Station, led a team to investigate. A blockade was set up at Warni Fanta on the Melkheda-Garoth road, where the police stopped a blue Sonalika tractor with a tanker, matching the description provided.

Upon questioning, the driver, identified as Netaram, aged 30, a resident of Udanio ki Dhani, Sanwriya Police Station, Phalodi, Jodhpur, Rajasthan, revealed that he was transporting the illegal drugs. A detailed inspection of the tanker uncovered two compartments, with the rear section left empty to mislead authorities during routine checks. The front compartment concealed 10 plastic sacks filled with poppy husk.

The seized drugs, weighing a total of 2 quintals and 7.5 kilograms, were confiscated, and the tractor and tanker were also impounded. Netaram was arrested on the spot.

During interrogation, Netaram confessed that he had obtained the Doda Chura from Mahendra Singh, a resident of Dungarkhedi in Suwasra Police Station area, and was delivering it to his cousin, Rampal, in Jodhpur district.

The police are now searching for the two absconding suspects — Mahendra Singh and Rampal — involved in the narcotics network.
