The ‘rail roko’ agitation of the BJP Kisan Morcha turned damp squib with large posse of the police force manning security arrangements arrested the Morcha leaders along with their leaders outside the Railway station, thereby puncturing their agitation before it could have taken off.
The BJP Kisan Morcha on Friday had announced Rs rail roko’ agitation all-over the State seeking implementation of the Swaminathan Commission report by the Central Government. As planned, over 800 BJP Kisan Morcha activists led by Indore City BJP president Shankar lalwani and the district president of the BJP Kisan Morcha, Ravi Rawalia gathered outside the Railway station.
While the Morcha workers were proceeding towards platform No. 5 of the Railway station, a large number of police jawans of the RPF, GPF and the district police who were manning security arrangements both inside and outside the railway station in the wake of proposed Rs rail roko’ agitation of the BJP Kisan Morcha, were not allowed to enter inside the station, notwithstanding their stiff protest.
later, the district joint collector Varadmurthi Mishra announced arrest of all the Morcha workers and leaders outside the railway station by converting the railway station premises into a makeshift jail. After sometime, all the Morcha workers and their leaders were released by the district administration. Tact handling of the situation by the police force prevented outbreak of any untoward incident there, notwithstanding rebellious mood of the Morcha workers.
The BJP Kisan Morcha across the country has been demanding implementation of the recommendations of the National Commission on Farmers, chaired by Prof MS Swaminathan, who had submitted five reports between December 2004 — October 2006. Following from the first four, the final report focused on causes of farmers’ distresses and the rise in farmers suicides, and recommends addressing them through a holistic national policy for farmers. The findings and recommendations encompass issues of access to resources and social security entitlements.
