An Assistant Inspector of Police posted with Sukhi Sewania police was arrested by Special Establishment of Police-lokayukta for accepting bribe of Rs15,000 on Monday.
The accused ASI Gyan Singh Chandel was nabbed while accepting a bribe of Rs15000 at Vidisha road in the evening on Monday after a complaint was lodged by Himanshu Sharma few days ago with the lokayukta. In the complaint the victim claimed that the accused was demanding bribe of Rs15000 and failing to provide the bribe would result in dire consequences.
The victim who is son of retired DSP lokayukta Rajkumar Sharma informed his father after the accused demanded the bribe for facilitating in the case who suggested him to lodge a complaint with the lokayukta and later a complaint was lodged by Himanshu with the lokayukta.
lokayukta officials after receiving the complaint trapped the accused and asked the victim to provide the bribe demanded and while the accused was accepting the bribe he was nabbed. The accused ASI was nabbed at around 7 pm at Bypass road.
The victim used to run a college which was closed two years ago and after the closure a case was lodged with Sukhi Sewania police against him regarding some irregularities when the college was functioning smoothly. When the case was registered with the Sukhi Sewania accused was assigned with the case investigation who later demanded bribe from the accused.
A case under section 13 (1) (d) and 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was registered against the accused and further investigation has been started.
