The action of Madhya Pradesh police against the students and their parents is being opposed not only by the Congress party, but the citizens as well. They are questioning as why the students are being ill-treated by the police.
The police have so far arrested more than 200 persons on the charge of their involvement in the MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam.
In past two days, the students caught were treated like criminals and they were crammed in the lock-up rooms in large numbers. Huge crowd was witnessed at Mahila Police station, TT Nagar police station and STF police station, since Thursday morning.
Family and friends of the detainees thronged at the police stations’ premises providing food and water and inquiring about the status whether they would be detained or produced in the court and in which court they would be produced.
In TT Nagar police station, around 36 detainees were kept. In Mahila police station around 30 girl students were kept.
According to the official figures provided by MPSTF under PMT-2012 and PMT-2013 around 60 students and accused were arrested and 26 arrested students were produced in the Indore district court while the remaining were released after they were granted bail.
In the whole episode of the biggest detention till date in the PMT examination scam rumors where flying thick and fast as nothing official was provided by the STF in terms of number of detained students, agents and family members and during the same period it was also alleged that the parents of the students who were brought from other districts in private vehicles were forced to pay the fare of the vehicle.
The speedy action by the STF has attracted criticism and raised questions. The students which were detained were produced in their respective district courts but they were detained and brought in haste to Bhopal. If the students were to be produced in different district courts why they were brought to Bhopal and later taken to other district courts. Allegations of detaining a minor and keeping him in lock up in Ratlam was also raised but after Congress staged protest the minor was brought to Bhopal.
