The president of the Bharatiya Kisan Sang, Madhya Pradesh, Shiv Kumar Sharma, has alleged that the Central Government is celebrating even before the Prime Minister’s crop insurance policy scheme has been drafted.

Opinion on the policy has been asked from all th State Governments and 11 insurance companies and only after that can any draft be prepared, Sharma said while talking to media persons here on Wednesday. He said that after the draft is prepared the entire legal process inc luding the Cabinet meeting and publishing of gazette remains, only then the process can be called completed.

He further alleged that the Prime Minister is pro-industries and not pro-farmers and his participation in Farmers’ Convention and praising his crop insurance policy is like cheating farmers by showing pseudo sentiments. “Prime Minister in a short span of time took many anti-farmer decisions like he stopped their bonus, import of potato, import of wheat, import of cereals, land bill and 18 times ban on cotton export caused many farmers to commit suicide,” said Sharma.

“Almost four years before a scheme called ‘revised crop insurance policy’ was applied which now came into existence under this new name as ‘Prime Minister Crop Insurance policy,’” added Sharma.

He further added that on this policy opinion is being asked from all state governments but not from farmers. Sharma said that the draft is extremely twisted and unclear, and the premium is reduced by one per cent and compensation gets reduced by 10 per cent and the farmer goes into loss by nine percent.

The insurance do not cover all the disasters, but most of them are what happens on foreign lands, and Insurance must be a matter of choice not a forced policy, added Sharma.

Sharma has organised a rally on Thusrday 18 at Sherpur Shehore against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence at Farmers’ Convention. In the rally around 10,000 farmers will participate who will shout slogans and ask Modi to go back.
