Awareness and standard criteria of electricity safety is the key to avoid electricity-related accidents and such criteria should be followed for safe and secure electricity consumption, appealed the Central Electricity Power Distribution Company on Friday.

To maintain electrical safety, power supply lines should be maintained and installed at safer distance from the base and buildings and standards for this has been set by the Central Electricity Authority.

In the domestic usages electricity related accidents occur due to improper wiring, fitting and faults in the electrical equipments and to avoid such accidents, only  equipments with ISI mark should be used.

The company appealed to the consumers of residential and other areas to maintain specified distance from the power supply lines according to set safety guidelines.

At the low voltage and medium voltage installations consumers come in direct contact while in high voltages an individual gets electrocuted. In the lower and medium voltage connections, only fuses are used for safety. In case of more pressure on the line, the fuse gets damaged. However, if the earthing is proper, the fuse gets disconnected immediately and thus accident could be avoided, the official statement added.

Publicity officer of the company, Manoj Dwivedi informed that the company has asked the field officials to properly check if the safety measures are being followed by the consumers. They have also been asked to inspect the electricity connections and if found any irregularities, stern action should be taken against consumers under the provisions of the Electricity Act 2003.
