Two plays ‘Ek Vichitra Prem Katha’ and ‘Tambaku Ke Khatron Par Ek Bayan’ were staged at Ravindra Bhavan here on Wednesday. The plays were staged under an event Drishyantar.

‘Tambaku Ke Khatron Par Ek Bayan’ was a play adapted from the play written by Anton Chekhov ‘The Harmful Effects of Tobacco’. The play was translated into Hindi by Santosh Choubey.

The first short story ‘Ek Vichitra Prem Katha’ is written by a noted writer Santosh Choubey and the play was directed by Aseem Kumar Dubey. Ek Vichitra Prem Katha is a story of one sided love.

The story surrounds three lead characters Madhukar, Sudhir and Radha. Madhukar and Radha are BFF, they are best friends and they spend most of the time together. Madhukar soon falls in love for Radha and thinks that even she loves him.

One day Madhukar was informed that Radha is getting married to another man. He began wasting his all time thinking of her drinking and hurting himself. His very old friend Sudhir visits him and sees Madhukar badly drunk with a revolver in hand. He asks Madhukar the reason. After knowing it, Sudhir asks Madhukar has he ever kissed Radha to which Madhukar denies. Later he realized that he never expressed his love to Radha and she always took him as a good friend. At this realization, the play ends.

On the other hand, ‘Tambaku ke Khatron Pe Ek Bayan’ was a one-act play by Anton Chekhov and translated into Hindi by Santosh Choubey. It has one character Nyukhin, who interacts with the audience and tells about the harmful effects of tobacco.

The action takes place in a town hall. Nyukhin has been told by his wife to give a lecture about the harmful effects of tobacco, although he is a smoker. He emphasizes that this will be a dry and boring lecture, but always postpones the actual subject by talking about his problems with his domineering wife.
