Destiny plays an integral part in shaping up the lives, but what if one can’t fight the destiny. A play ‘Gardish-e-Afaq’ was staged at Shaheed Bhavan Auditorium here on Thursday.

Gardish-e-Afaq means a poor destiny. The play is adopted from a short story by American writer O Henry ‘Road of Destiny’. The play is directed and adapted by Abhinav Junwal and was beautifully presented by the artists of Continuum Academy of Performing Arts, Bhopal.

The story suggests that the choice is not so much among different fates as among different versions of the same fate. The play follows the story of an underpaid clerk who is struggling hard to survive. He depends solely on his destiny as she has no other choice. The story somehow saw poverty and exploitation as two evil enemies of the urban life.

On one hand O Henry created a kind of wit in his writing style, on the other hand the talented director Abhinav tried to showcase the harsh reality of life in most creative manner.

As the play begins, the audience see narrator entering the stage. The narrator Chandrakant meets another character on stage leeladhar. leeladhar is the writer and publisher of a publishing house. As both of them meets, they started to talk and interact with each other.Talking on different topics, they then talked about destiny. Chandrakant started to narrate the story of a clerk, who tried to struggle with his life and poor destiny. For not coping up, the clerk died and this how he ended his life and poor destiny.Chandrakant tells leeladhar to pen down his story and publish it for the audience. The play was wonderfully presented leaving the audience mesmerized.
