Had human nature been changed, there could have never been any revolution in the world,” said a noted television actress and social activist Mona Ambegaonker.
Mona was here in the city on Friday to present a serious play Ek Madhav Baug dealing with the difficulties faced by homosexual community in the society. She has been part of The Humsafar Trust, Mumbai for past four years and has done 42 shows across the country of the play. This was her 43rd show in the city. While sharing her intense thoughts about the issue in an interview with The Pioneer, Mona discussed about her journey as a social activist and an actor.
Highlighting the insensitivity in the society, Mona said, “The society somehow denies accepting the truth and people struggling with the darkest truths of their personal lives are looked down. Many uncertain incidents are happening with the young girls but, what are we doingIJ Instead of supporting the victim we are looking for more gossips and headlines made for her pain and grief,” she added.
Quoting the fact she further highlighted about the good and bad touch. “Touching is not bad, but there is a difference between a bad touch and a good touch and people should realize the dividing line between it.” Feeling devastated, the victims are unable to share their feelings. In this case education plays an important role. Programmes like these are educating people across the nation, she added.
Further, focusing about her contribution in bringing up the social issues like HIV/ AIDS, homosexuality, child molestation into light, she said, “I try to bring these issues come in contact with the society through stage dramas and plays. Through workshops I endeavour to make the youngsters and even elder people of the society to understand the reality of the truth and instead of running away from this, it is their duty to face it and fight.” But, it is really sad to see that society is so regressive that it does not allows its own group and it is so unfortunate that people are fighting for other people’s privacy, she added.
Mona further said that at this point people need to think in a more appropriate manner on this issue. Basically the society needs sensitization, a bit common sense and moreover women need financial empowerment and education. Females of the society should have the financial independency this would be a great help for them to lead a life. Mona recently is working in a daily soap Kaisa Ye Ishq Hai Ajab Sa Risk Hai aired on life Ok.
