The play is based on Kalidasa’s epic poem Abhigyan Shakuntalam. The play was directed by Krishna Lal.

Shakuntala Dushyant was staged in Swang style. The play is about the lost ring of Shakuntala.

The play is all about the love saga of prince Dushyant and the protagonist Shakuntala. Shakuntala is the daughter of Maneka and Vishwamitra and Dushyant the prince of Hastinapura.

Once Dushyanta went on hunting where he sees Shakuntala and falls for her. He gives her a ring so that she can claim her to be his queen when they meet next and says he will return soon.

While Shakuntala is fanaticising about Dushyanta a saint comes to her for food. When she seems to be ignorant the saint curses her that Dushyanta will forget her.

Later, the story follows Shakuntala’s journey to find her love and Dushyanta to remember his. Later, she gives birth to Dushyant's son Bharat. How Dushyant remebers about his family and love formed rest of the story.

The play was beautifully presented leaving the audience enthralled.
