The play begins with a narration in a modern environment where a working young woman is grieved for not being able to cooperate with her male colleagues in the office. The narrative of Mother and Medha's address contains the story of Khana, the pain of a talented, transcendent woman. The play has a backdrop of Ujjayini of the fourth-fifth century, when Malavasnayak Chandragupta Vikramaditya ruled there.

At the same time, the desire to attain knowledge of Khana of a village brings him to Ujjayini, the abode of literature and art. He gets the discipleship of the famous Jyotishacharya Varah Mihir due to his prodigious intelligence and exclusive curiosity. Soon the circumstances make her the daughter-in-law of Varah Mihir. Varah Mihir is one of Vikramaditya's Navratnas. His association with the Rajya Sabha leads Khana Devi's growing knowledge and fame. With the light of Vikramaditya's knowledge, Deept gets attracted to this personality very quickly.
