The fourth day of lokrang 2015 was all about the national folk dances, international ballet performance and brain teasing magical show. Here on Thursday, the Bhopalites enjoyed various performances of distinctive art and culture. The evening began with the folk performances of various Indian States. The Bhopalites took the pleasure of Bangla Dance that was presented by the artists of Meghalaya. later, the artists from Uttaranchal performed Ghasiyari. Notably, in older times, when there was no other source of entertainment, women of this region performed the dance as they went about their daily work.
It is now performed on joyous occasions like marriages, and festivities like Holi and Diwali. Dancers wearing the traditional ghagra and waist-coat, present the performance to the accompaniment of the drum, flute and the ranasingha - the huge S-shaped horn. The charm was lifted up when the dancers from Haryana presented Ghoomar dance. It is performed by groups of women in swirling robes accompanied by men and women singing together.
This folk dance gets its name from ‘ghoomna’, the pirouetting which displays the spectacular colors of the flowing ‘ghaghara’, the long skirt of the Rajasthani women. There is an amazing grace as the skirt flair slowly while the women twirl in circles, their faces covered with the help of the veil. They dance in measured steps and graceful inclinations of body, beating palms or snapping fingers at particular cadences, while singing some lilting songs.
later, the dancers from Manipur performed Pug Cholom and Dashavtaar. The programme was followed with the Maopata dance of Chhattisgarh which is a drama based dance that showcases the hunting. Dholukunita of Karnataka, Thapetgullu of Andhra Pradesh were also performed. Further the folk dances of Madhya Pradesh Bhadam Pardhauni stole away the show.
later, a magician from Germany showed some brain teasing magical tricks that mesmerised the Bhopalites to the fullest. The series of cultural events were concluded with the ballet performances by the Brazil dancers leaving the audience enthralled.
