People want change of power at Centre, says BJP's Irani

With the Congress-led UPA Government being unable to address the issues of growing inflation and corruption, the people of the country have started talking about a change in power at the Centre, a senior BJP leader said on Thursday.

“The Congress-led UPA is unable to reply to the people on the issue of growing inflation and rampant corruption in the country and therefore, they are raising their voice for a change of power at the Centre,” newly appointed BJP vice-president Smriti Irani told reporters here on Thursday.

In the 2014 general elections, there will be a change of power at the Centre with the BJP-led NDA forming government in the country, Smriti claimed.

Whenever Congress enters into electoral fray, it focuses itself on the issues concerning common man. "But the common man today is facing a difficult question of inflation without any answer", she said.

The Congress-led government believes in doing "self welfare" more than the development of the people, the BJP leader remarked.

However, Irani kept mum over the Prime Ministerial candidate in the BJP. Irani who was in the city in connection with Swadeshi Jagaran Manch’s programme, replying to queries of mediapersons whether the BJP would project Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate in the coming lok Sabha elections, said any decision on the Prime Ministerial candidate, will be taken by the BJP Parliamentary Board. This has been stated by the BJP president Rajnath Singh at various platforms and my stand will not be isolated from him, she said.

Taking a dig at the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj party, she said people have understood the double standards of both the parties. This is evident from the fact that SP talks of extending its support to the Congress in the Parliament, on the other hand it admonishes the party outside the Parliament.

Claiming victories for the BJP in both the State and lok Sabha elections in 2014, the BJP vice-president said people of the country will teach lesson to the Congress for the soaring prices and reigning corruption at all levels. Ruling out the formation of Third Front in the country, she said Team Rajnath is completely ready for the 2014 lok Sabha elections.
