The State Government has distributed pension worth Rs 2,016.07 crore under Social Security Pension Scheme during last nine years. During last fiscal, pension worth Rs 284.62 crore was distributed to 9.45 lakh beneficiaries.
Pension worth Rs 258.22 crore was distributed to 9.39 lakh beneficiaries in year 2011-12, Rs 270.43 crore to 8.50 lakh beneficiaries in 2010-11, Rs 243.64 crore to 8.41 lakh beneficiaries in 2009-10, Rs 267.27 crore to 8.08 lakh beneficiaries in 2008-09, Rs 183.05 crore to 7.03 lakh beneficiaries in 2007-08, Rs 172.66 crore to 7.33 lakh beneficiaries in 2006-07, Rs 168.38 crore to 6.61 lakh beneficiaries in 2005-06 and pension worth Rs 167.79 crore was distributed to 7.73 lakh beneficiaries in year 2004-05.
It is noteworthy, that the State Government is implementing Social Security Pension Scheme since year 1981. Benefit of the scheme is provided to destitutes above 60 years of age, destitute widows and abandoned women above 18 years of age and disabled persons of over 6 years of age. Pension at the rate of Rs 150 per month is provided to destitute BPl beneficiaries. The State Government is providing additional pension of Rs 75 per month to beneficiaries of age group 65 to 79 years under Indira Gandhi Old Age Pension Scheme.
