The chaos and confusion between dreams, desires and reality were shown in a Hindi play 'Peely Scooter Wala Aadmi'. The play was staged at Antrang Hall, Bharat Bhavan on Thursday.
Written by a noted and distinguished playwright of the State Manav Kaul, the play was directed by Nizam Patel. Further, the play was performed by the artists of Mahi Socio Cultural Society.
'Simple questions may have simple answers, but some questions have no answers at all' was the catchy line of the play and these are questions that begin to stay with an individual very often.
The story revolves around a young man is trying to write, but unanswered questions keep haunting him. The play explores his inner struggle as a writer and a person, as he tries repeatedly to tell the story he wishes to tell. Using alter egos and unquenchable desires to give the unconscious a shape and form, the playwright makes his protagonist a struggling writer, an object of mystery and a subject of conflicting emotions. The drama of unanswered questions asked by our protagonist gets played in the familiar psychological context of childhood experiences shaping one's adulthood.
While the set and music reflect the existential nature of the play, it is the language, which lends to the play its ephemeral quality as memories, dreams, desires and angst get pitched against each other. Kaul undoubtedly writes with a poetic fervour.
The play has been given a definite design despite the dream-like chaos of its subject matter. It is this quality that stands out as singularly commendable in a production that otherwise may have just been passable.
It was a wonderful experience for the Bhopalites to watch such a write up performed on stage. The artists like Shahvez Sikander, Rahul Sharma and Ashok Bulani managed to maintain the interest of the audience with their strong and mature acting.
The programme was jointly organized by Mahi socio cultural society and Sarv Sidha Organisation. Notably, Anjay Tiwari Rangkarm Sadhana Award Ceremony was also held during the programme. A senior and a renowned theater artist Smit Mehta would honoured with the award. Further, Urban Administration and Development (UAD) Minister was present as the Chief Guest on the occasion and presented the award to Smit Mehta.
