Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) activist Medha Patkar and five others were detained in Madhya Pradesh on Monday when they were fasting to demand rehabilitation of those displaced by the Sardar Sarovar dam.
Six other activists reportedly decided to continue the hunger-strike going on in Dhar district. Patkar and those detained said they will carry on their fast in police custody.
Nearly 2,000 police personnel who were present at the protest site allegedly used force against the agitators.
Some of them even alleged that the police manhandled a few women protesters when they tried to stop the former from detaining Patkar.
