With patience and sensitivity, grievances of the victims from Scheduled Class and Tribe (SC and ST) should be handled which could make them realise that they came to the right place and would get justice, said DGP Rishi Shukla while addressing at the inauguration of two-day seminar on ‘Sensitisation towards Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes at PTRI on Friday.
He said talking with the victim with patience and humility helps the victim to cope with the situation and increases confidence of getting justice.
Police is a very vital connecting link in the society and should shoulder this responsibility with honesty. The police officers should remain aware of the amendments in the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act to investigate cases related with SC and ST. On this occasion Special DG KN Tewari said that in the last 10 years, the Parliament and Judiciary has worked in the direction and strategies to bring the SC and ST to the main stream and police needs to work more sensitively on the subject of handling the cases of these sections.
He said special provisions have also been made to provide immediate justice. Along with special prosecutor special trail court and dead line for several processes have been set. Provision of departmental inquiry for deliberate delays or irregularities has also been made and action for contempt could also be taken.
A documentary ‘Barabar’ was screened showcasing the sensitive behaviour towards SC/ST section by police which results in providing justice. Around 100 participants from the rank of inspector to Superintendent of Police participated in the seminar.
