The students participating in a summer camp of model rocketry workshop, organised at the Regional Science Centre, Bhopal, launched as many as 40 rockets on Friday, leaving their parents and other onlookers awestruck.

The model rocketry session organised as part of a summer vacation workshop for the middle school children to learn about the facts of science as a fun which came to an end on Friday was attended by 21 students from different schools of Bhopal.

During the workshop, the students were taught about the basic principles of rocketry, its history, parts of a rocket such as Body Tube, Coupling Tube, Nose Cone, Fins, Thrust Ring and launch lug in detail and its significance in modern days. The students learned to prepare the small version of the original rocket along with the parts used in it.

During the last two days the students prepared two rockets individually along with altitude tracker just to track the movement of the launched rocket. Further, the students also prepared an altitude calculator to measure the approximate height of the launched rocket.

On the concluding day, the final launching of the rockets was done. Students enthusiastically gave a creative name to their rockets like Prithvi, Space Avenger, Agni, Sky Fall, NASA, Sky Evader, Space Evader and more. The students made the swing test and calculated the centre of gravity and centre of pressure for each rocket.

As many as 40 rockets were launched in which one of the rockets went up to 400 metres.

While talking to The Pioneer, the Education Officer of the science centre, MM Rout, said, "This was the most memorable and exciting moment for all the students as they have launched their own rockets before their parents and other invitees. The students undoubtedly enjoyed the activity and were really excited about launching their own rockets."

Another session of the summer workshop would begin here from May 29, Rout said.
