Yeh ghalat fehmi hai logo ko mere kar se, Main patharo me zindagi talash karta hoon.” With these deep words, Urdu play ‘Parchaiyon ka Peecha’ was staged on Wednesday at Bharat Bhavan.

Written by a renowned Urdu playwright Ibrahim Yusuf around 30 years back and seems to have its relevance even today, the play directed by Irrfan Sourabh was beautifully presented by the artists of Pallav theatre troupe, Bhopal.

The story surrounds the life of a husband and a wife where they both are looking for their desires to be fulfilled. Their choice is different, their attitude and their understanding is different but how they overcome to all the hurdles created this beautiful masterpiece ‘Parchhaiyon Ka Peecha’.

Irrfan Sourabh said, “This script is an unusual one. Moreover it is one of the best written scripts of Urdu plays which I desperately wanted to stage. The play showcases various colours of life, the black and white side of an individual’s personality and besides, instead of many hurdles the love between two people remains intact. This is what made this script an exceptional piece.”

The play begins with introducing the male protagonist Fhanus. He is a sculptor and an archeologist and loves to be engrossed in his work. His wife Tarannum feels ignored and hence is known to be a proud owner of 20 cats. On one hand where Fhanus is in search of his complete desires in those statues, Tarannum busied herself with her cats.

Though Fhanus never gave up on Tarannum but the world he is searching for is somewhere in his imagination while Tarannum lives in reality. Both of them have been married for ten to twelve years. But in these years, both of them have marked a distance of miles. Until the third person Khursheed arrives.

Khursheed the handsome guy attracts Tarannum. Tarannum and Khursheed creates closeness and Fhanus with a heavy heart agrees to their relationship. But, Tarannum’s love and Fhanus’ loyalty did not allow them to leave each other.

The play ends on a positive note. With light designs and perfect stage backdrop, the play was made enjoyable for the audience.
