At least half a dozen paramedical staffer at the State-level Hamidia hospital in Bhopal fainted on Monday, after putting on low quality PPE kits.Sources in the hospital claimed that several paramedical staffers at Hamidia hospital and those engaged in collecting sampling of patients in various areas were reporting discomfort due to the thick PPE kits recently sourced by the hospital, which is responsible for distributing PPE kits among staffers as well as those engaged in sampling.
One of the employees of the Hamidia hospital said that those fainted on Monday were the staffers of different hospitals who were engaged in collecting samples of covid19 suspects across the city and received protective kits from Hamidia hospital which also has a separate covid19 unit.
These outside staffers fainted and fell ill due to the new and thick PPE kits and we have also complained of these protective gears. Afterwards, the hospital has withdrawn these kits and has offered fresh kits to the para medical staff, said a staff nurse.
Those fell ill were given treatment and were stable now. With the commencement of Nautapa (an extremely hot nine days in summer), mercury is soaring upwards constantly in Bhopal as elsewhere. The State capital on Monday recorded a maximum temperature of 44.5 degree Celsius, highest mark for this season.
Amid such a situation, putting on PPE kits is becoming tougher for medical staffers.Besides those in hospitals, others including those engaged in surveys and screening of suspected patients too are required to put on this protective gear amid corona scare.
