Pak official meets Ramzan

Hopes of Pakistani lad Ramzan to reunite with his mother have been rekindled as a senior official of the neighbouring country reached the State capital and called on him.

However, the fate of Ramzan going back to his native country would only be decided after the outcome of this meet. On the prior occasion his mother had declined to come to India causing further delay in Ramzan’s return to Pakistan.

The Pakistani official talked to Ramzan in closet for about an hour at the shelter home ‘Umeed’ run by an NGO ‘Aarambh’. The Pakistani High Commission official- Pakistan’s first secretary (Visa) Khadim Hussain was accompanied by deputy secretary of Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Sanjay Kumar.

Ramzan narrated his ordeal to the officer and requested him to arrange his deportation at the earliest.

Shelter Home’s Archana Sahay informed the media persons after Ramzan’s meeting with the Pakistani authorities that the boy has told them that he left Pakistan with his father by air, this has pinned hopes that the biggest hurdle of passport and his identification in his deportation would be solved. If he has travelled by air to another country then it is definite that there might be his travel documents including passport and that could be traced, she added.

Ramzan is currently staying at a shelter home ‘Umeed’ run by an NGO ‘Aarambh’.

Fifteen-year-old Ramzan was separated from his mother at the age of 10 when his father took him to Bangladesh and remarried. After being tortured by his stepmother, the boy crossed the border alone in 2011 with the hope of coming back to his mother in Pakistan. He had traveled to many States before landing in Bhopal where he was spotted at the railway station by the Government Railway Police (GRP) on September 22, 2013, and shifted to a shelter home run by Childline and has remained there since then.
